fix for chapter numbering?

Explorer ,
Oct 07, 2009 Oct 07, 2009

I use Frame 8.  I have a book with four chapters, and I added one between 1 and 3.  The autonumbering changed the order to Chapter 1, Chapter 3, Chapter 1, Chapter 3.

I have tried to use the Document -> Pagination window to tell it to "continue from previous" or put in the number I specify. I've also tried the same thing with the whole book.  Strangely but happily, the TOC does the numbering perfect when I update the book.  I have also tried importing formats from another document with correct numbering.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You have to set the numbering at the Book level. Book settings always trump Document settings. Select all files in the Book, right-click and select Numbering. Set the Chapter tab to Continue from previous, provided you're using the <$chapnum> variable.
