FM11 crashes when opening DITA files created with FM7.2

Hi all,

I am finding out new truths every day now about FM11 and DITA 1.2..

The latest problem: FM11 crashes (on all our computers) when trying to open existing DITA files. These were created with FM7.2 using the DITA application pack. FM11 is newly installed and uses its standard configuration out of the box. Win7 64bit.

No dialog opens, FM11 just hangs for a while, then dies.

I do not think that I will put much effort in resolving this and just maintain existing projects with older FM versions. So just for interest, is this a known bug?

Robert

Hi Robert...

No idea why this would happen .. but I'd be happy to take a look at the file if you're able to share it. I think you have my email, otherwise you can contact me via http://leximation.com/contact.php

Cheers,

Scott,

it might have to do with the new restriction of Dita 1.2 not to shuffle

topic types within a single file (e.g. a task beneath a concept). I hope

that I can have a deeper look next week and come back to you - or post the

solution if I find any.

Anyway, I would not see a problem if FM brought up a structure error

message but just crash down?

This isn't a new restriction, but it does have to do with the structure app implementation in FM. In the FM app pack (and all DITA 1.0 or DITA 1.1 implementations that I'm aware of), the structure app was based on the ditabase model, which allows all topics in any order in the same file. But with FM's DITA 1.2 apps, they created separate apps for each topic type, which restricts the topics in that file to that type. If you open the file with the DITA 1.2 ditabase app (is there one?), you shouldn't have any topic nesting restrictions.

Regardless .. it shouldn't crash FM.
