Hi Dorothea,

Are you sure that you have the italic Helvetica font installed? Can you check in your font folder? Can you compare this with your coworker?

Did this work before?

Other applications like Word calculate a new artificial, slanted font, when e.g. an italic font is missing.

FrameMaker wants the exact font, which is correct.

Best regards

Winfried

Just an idea to check. Is your coworker's OS set to Spanish or German in the local and regional settings? I had this issue on our Indesign manual projects for almost 5 years and recently discovered that setting the local and regional settings to the language used in the manuals does solve the issue automatically.

As I recall (and based on the instance on my machine), Helvetica is a legacy 8-bit ISO 8859 (Code page 1252) font, and not Unicode. The Unicode instance of it might be named Helvetica Neue. The original Helvetica was available as Type1 or TTF.

With that context, the top suspects here might be:

  • The document is Unicode, but the local font is legacy, and doesn't populate the code points.
  • The decoration isn't Italic, but Obliqued, which is something that FM can do if: Type1 font .AND. currently configured printer is PostScript, Acrovat, or otherwise Ps-emulating.

dorothea.per: is there something i should do?

It might help the helpers here if you could tell us what a typical intended glyph was (code point), and what it rendered as.
