Question

Frame 10 crashes when I save book as HTML

Running Frame version: 10.0.2.419

I open my book and choose File > Save book as... , choose a new folder location, and HTML as the type.

I get prompted to add formats to the catalog. Why that's happening I'm not clear on; whether I choose to add them or not does not affect whether Frame crashes. I get output, but based on other postings and the fact that Frame crashes generating it, I'm not wholly confident of the result.

Any advice out there?

Thanks.

Mary

    Hi,

Some time ago someone had reported that all files in your book must have an HTML mapping page on your reference pages, if you want to save a book as HTML. I do not remember, if all the mapping pages must even be the same.

I do not remember who had reported this and whether the circumstances are similar to yours. However, I would just check, if all of your files and specifically the first one have HTML mapping pages.

    Best regards

    Winfried

    HI Mary,

You may not get much response on the Save as HTML feature in FM...It's basically unchanged since the emergence of the Tech Comm Suite, which included FrameMaker 8.

You'll find many alternative methods for producing HTML and Help, including RH with the TCS, MIF2GO, Flare, and WebWorks products.

I have the TCS, with a maintenance contract, so RH is the logical, lowest cost, and integrated choice for my output.

Hi Matt, thanks for your reply.

I'm not too worried because hopefully using the Save as ... HTML feature is a short term solution and I won't have to do this on an ongoing basis.

But it's not very good form to have the product crash when you use a shipped feature, so who knows, maybe they'll be able to use the info I provided somehow.

    Thanks again Matt,

    Mary

Have you tried doing some lorsum text with one of the “factory” templates and see if it chokes on that? Maybe the issue is in your content…

If FM’s HTML output was so great, people like Jeremy over at Omnisys (Mif2Go) wouldn’t have a livelihood ;>)
