First off, are you completely up to date in your patches? Next, is it happening on every doc you have or only one? Third, is there something (some action) you are doing that can repeatedly cause this crash? If so, you need to use the Tracker (Tracker ) to log the bug and provide a sample doc.

Hi - the number of crashes has decreased but I'm FM is still crashing every once in a while.

There's no specific action that causes these crashes, as far as I can see.

Attaching screen shots of crashes. FM Crashes.PNG

Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Is it happening on a fresh FM doc (not based on your existing templates)? Have you tried MIF-washing the docs that threw the errors?

An easy nondestructive test:

  • Find your preferences directory
    Mine is at C:\Users\Matt\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\14
  • Change the name of the folder (perhaps to 14-backup)
  • Restart FrameMaker

While it may not solve your problem, it only takes 3 minutes to check, and you can easily reverse these steps if you need to recover customization to workspaces and other things.

I changed the directory folder, but as soon as I opened FM, it created a new folder with the old name.

In any case, I haven't had a crash yet.

Thanks.

Excellent...seeing the new 13 folder is expected behavior, and it sounds like it worked for you.

I was also told that if you try to open FM files via the explorer, rather than from FM itself, it causes problems (freezes, crashes, broken links, etc.).

So far so good.

Thanks!

Problems opening files from the Win Explorer would indicate a problem with your Windows registry file. If you encounter this (with any Win app) use a registry cleaner such as CCleaner to remedy.
