FrameMaker 2022 -File Info fields auto-fill issue

New Here ,
May 03, 2023 May 03, 2023

Hi all

File Info fields in FrameMaker 2022 being automatically filled with unwanted text, even after we have deleted it.

The metadta fields like Subject and Keywords contain text that we want to remove from all the files in a book. We open each file and remove the text, save the files, and close the book. When we reopen the files the unwanted text back again in the Subject and Keywords fields.

Ideally, we would like to remove the unecessary text completely from the files.  However, we cannot find where the text is stored.  It does not appear in the Variables list, but must have been manually added by a previous writer because it's a specific company part number.

Does anyone know where the text is stored?  How to remove the text from the File Info fields without it returning?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Jeff,

In a previous FM version it was not possible to remove the file info, when you had entered something.

However, at least in FrameMaker 2022 you can enter anything in the file info, save the file, open it again, delete the content, save. The file info content is always correct. I just checked it again.

Manu5FF4, I do not know, why you cannot delete the file info. Generally this works. I work with file info all the time, and I do not have any problems.

Ah, I think you've fallen into the File Info trap - once you've entered in anything in those fields, it carries on indefinitely. Even if you use it as the template to start a new doc, it will come over into your new doc. The only way is to blank out the info with spaces & save it.

Thank you Jeff. I tried removing all the content in the file info fields and the saved file, but when we reopen the file again, the unwanted text back again in those file info fields.

Did you remove the text or type over it with spaces?

Are your files in any way special? Structured? Just to be sure: Can you change anything else and save and reopen the file and the changes are there?

Are there any scripts which update file info? (I have one, but I have to run it. It does not run automatically.)

Best regards, Winfried
