In the PDF Setup, what is the meaning of 'Generate PDF for review only'?

  1. Open the PDF Setup: Format > Document > PDF Setup.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Now you can select/deselect the option Generate PDF for review only.

Someone out there, to explain me this function? In simple words please. Thank you.

    This is used in a PDF commenting workflow, where the editors can mark-up the PDF, and the Fm user can import the comments back into the Fm document, and accept or reject the changes.

    Enabling Generate PDF for Review Only enabled commenting in Reader, which used to be an extra step. Without it, someone using Reader would not have access to the mark-up tools. It was never necessary for someone who was marking up the file in Acrobat.

    I'm using the Acrobat Reader DC. It doesn't matter, whether Generate PDF for Review Only is enabled or not. The mark-up tools are always accessible.

    Maybe this function affects older Reader versions.

    That is correct.

    Enabling Generate PDF for Review Only enabled commenting in Reader, which used to be an extra step.
