Incorporating sound files (e.g., .mp3) into FrameMaker documents

I have been tasked with incorporating .mp3 files into a FM document. These files are little sounds that occur for specific functions—like the sounds Microsoft uses. I looked in the forums but haven’t seen anything that addresses this particular requirement. FWIW, right now I’m using FM 7 on Windows XP; we’re upgrading soon to FM 9. Any information or assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Do you want to be able to play the sounds in an FM session or from a PDF created from the FM file?

FM itself doesn't have any capability of playing back audio files, but you can create PDFs from FM that have audio embedded.

It would be most helpful if the sounds could be generated

in both the FM file and the PDF, but the PDF is more important. The document may also be converted to .CHM format. Can you

tell me how to embed the sound file in PDF or direct me to the information? Thanks--

    Phcbari,

Sounds files do not print, so FrameMaker has no native support for sounds. You have to keep them external and create a link to it. The same will be true in CHM files. The way to do that so that the sounds can be played in PDF requires a solution from Microtype, check out their site and the sample document:

How to handle this when creating CHM depends on the tools used to do that.
