Internal Error in Frame 9

Hi,

On several independent occasions I have been experiencing an internal error when using Framemaker 9. I have, as yet, not been able to detect any cause for this error. The error log that is supposedly created is not to be found and, as a result, has not been sent to Adobe. Probably, the latter is an organizational issue to be solved by my system administrator.

Error code received:

Internal Error 9004 5247548, 5814661, 5091061

Any ideas?

Much obliged,

Pieter van de Sande

Pieter, as a user forum we don't have access to the exact internal error codes, so it's more likely that somebody here might recognize a description of the symptom(s) of the crash, if you are able to identify what steps lead to the crash.

As a first step, please let us know exactly the version of FM you're using (from Help > About, the "pxxx" numbers. And on what operating system and service pack are you using?

Also, if you haven't yet applied the updates to FM, those would be a very good first step. The current version is 9.0.3, aka FM 9.0p250.   Also note that FM updates must be installed in order, individually, as F updates are not the more common "roll-up" style.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I am using Windows XP sp 3 and have tried to instal updates. For my version, however, these were not available. My version of FrameMaker is 9.0p196, for which there is only an SDL Authoring plug in update.

It is not that easy to indicate what triggers the program to halt and cause an error message to pop up. The message seems to appear at random as one time it appeared when I was worling on lay-out (paragraph tags, cell margins, table titles), but on another occasion the message displaying the error code appeared when I attempted to update the book file.

My system administrator has changed the user rights for Framemaker after reading related postst on this forum, so FM can now do as it pleases as it is no longer restricted by any security means. After applying that it took several hours for the message to reappear, as it did before.

I will now try and rename the linguistics file and see if that helps. Nope, Frame just halts on start up.

    Regards

    Pieter

I'm seeing several updates for your version on http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows

Remember to install them in order - FM updates are sequential, not cumulative. By the end you should be at 9.0.3 p250

I'm afraid that I can't help you with the internal error, but I noticed that you can't find the FrameLog files. My FM 9 installation often crashes when I quit FrameMaker, and I've searched the entire machine for them, to no avail. I'm quite sure that this is not due to an administrative issue because a week earlier I still had FM 8, and there were quite a few FrameLog files in the installation directory. Other Framers suggested to search for the files in the user profile (appdata\FrameMaker\9, application data\FrameMaker\9 or similar), and I found the directory, but not the log files.
