Hi!
I recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2022. When I try to publish a larger book into a pdf through Save As Pdf, the generated pdf is missing some of the images, while some of the images do appear normally. However, when I publish a pdf of any of the single fm components, the very same images appear just fine. When publishing any smaller books, all images appear just fine.
The problematic book is around 147 pages long and has several images per most pages. The files were created with an older version of FrameMaker. The images DO appear if I use Print Book and Adobe PDF printer though.
Is there some setting or something I could do to make all the images appear the other way as well?
Hope I could explain it clearly and thank you so much for help in advance!
Hi
Thanks for the response, and sorry for a late reply.
I had opened and saved all the .FM files with FrameMaker 2022, but it seems publishing with Acrobat Distiller worked! Which is baffling, cause I thought I tried that last week.
Thank you so much for your help, Winfried, and have a good day!
Best regards,
Markus

Hi,
I have much larger books with many graphics, and I do not have any problems to create PDFs.
Are all the FrameMaker files in this book opened and saved with FrameMaker 2022 (as you mentioned that they were created with an older version)?
You can publish also with Acrobat Distiller. In the Publish settings in the Output tab activate "Use Acrobat Distiller for PDF Generation". Then you can just use Save As PDF or use the Publish pod to create your PDFs via Distiller.
Do you use structured or unstructured FrameMaker?
With structure it could be that there are different templates.
When you can convert the problematic FrameMaker files via FrameMaker, and this does not work with the book, then I would inform Adobe with the Adobe Tracker:

Have you checked the file types that cause problems? I know for a fact that FrameMaker does not fully support *.bmp files anymore, for instance. And *.bmp HAS been a very common file format.

Hi, @Markus30236947ecui ,
are all images stored locally on your PC?
Or do you work with network stored ressources (NAS, Cloud etc.)?
I am working with 500+ page books without any problems, but all is stored locally.
Regards
Stephan

I create manuals that run to 300-400 pages with lots of screenshots and artwork (.eps) imported by reference, all of which are stored on our internal network. And when saving as PDF in FM2022, sometimes (2~3% of the time??) one or two of the larger artwork files don't render correctly (some of the lines and/or colors are missing), and when I scroll thru the PDF it will hang on that page and give me an error message. I assume it is a network problem. I just 'Save as PDF' again and that takes care of it.

Have you tried the Publish panel to save as PDF?
