I gave a co-worker a book that has left, right, and blank master pages. I was looking at her reproduction of my book and noticed that she only has a right page master page. Is there some way that the left and blank master pages would get lost or deleted...something she may have done?  Deleted them maybe?

The page applied when you choose Format > Page Layout > None is built in and not something that can be deleted. If you go to Format > Page Layout > Pagination and choose Single Sided, you will no longer have a Left master page. But any other custom master pages should still be there. You actually can't delete Right and Left master pages. You can only delete custom master pages.

Yeah, yesterday, I went to Format > Page Layout > MasterPage Usage and discovered that her book master pages were set to Right. She insisted that I gave her the book with Right master page, only, but I checked all of my books for the last two years and all have Right/Left, which, as you said, cannot be deleted.

One more question. If she changes the Right master page setting to Right/Left, will it impact any of her current content? My assumption is that it won't, since only the margins would be different in this case. The only change I see would be the header, because the header (section title) in the Right page is right justified and the header (section title) in the Left page is left justified. The footer (date, page number and title) are all left, center, and right justified, respectively. Therefore, the footer text would not change at all between Right and Left pages.

If you choose Format > Page Layout > Pagination and change the document to Double Sided, you will get a default "Left" master page and your left hand pages will use this master page. You may have to do some formatting to this page to get what you want as far as margins, headers, footers, etc.

If the Right has a default 1.25 inside and 1.0 outside margin, wouldn't the Left default to the opposite margins when changing to Double-Sided? Or does she have to manually modify the margins? Again, the only change I saw would be the header section titles...maybe, at most. Footer (Date/Page #/Book Title) are already centered in the Right page. I assume it would also default to centered in the Left page. No?

Ok I choose Format > Page Layout > Pagination > Double-Sided and no changes were required. Left pages were converted and added automatically, including the header (section title) orientation to be on the Left page to the left side.

Thanks for your help!
