I have been trying to help my co-worker fix the below distiller error unsuccessfully for the past day. When printing a pdf with tags and bookmarks, the pdf file gives an error in NotePad and the pdf fails to print. I've searched some forums and have found other people with similar issues, but no answer as to how to fix this.
The really strange part is that I can print the pdf just fine from my computer, but my co-worker cannot print the same book file to pdf without the error. I would just print the file for her, but there are several similar ones to print and they all produce the same error in the same spot.
I'm guessing there must be some setting that is different on my computer from hers, although I can't find anything set different in FrameMaker.
If anyone has any suggestions or knows how to fix, that would be awesome!
Here is the error message that comes up in NotePad:

As Sheila suggests, this specific problem was encountered with the initial release of FrameMaker 8.0 (FM8.0p236) and fixed in FM8.0p266.
To apply the patch, select Help > Updates from within FrameMaker. Latest version of FrameMaker 8.0 is FM8.0p277.

Well, it's an Acrobat error, not a Frame error.
So it's likely that the Acrobat setup differs between the two machines.
Without going into the setup (you need to provide some environment info -- Frame and Actobat versions, OS, RAM and so on)... if the file keeps blowing up in the same spot, there's something at the end of Page 18 or the beginning of Page 19 that's not set up correctly. Which means that you need to see what is in the file at that point.... I'm guessing it may be a graphic, but that's just a WAG.
If it is, maybe give us some info on the way it was imported and the format....

Hi Art,
Thanks for the reply. In response to your questions, the computers are almost identical and were purchased at the same time. The software for both is FrameMaker 8.0, and the printer is just the version of PDF Writer 8.0 that comes with FrameMaker 8.
My computer is:
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3, 3.25GB RAM, AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core processor 4400+ 2.21GHz
My co-workers is:
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3, 3.00GB RAM, AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core processor 4400+ 2.22GHz
Might be worth noting as well that she was able to print pdf files up until this morning.
I've had this error as well but it has generally gone away after restarting my computer. She has fixed hers as well in the past just by restarting, however it doesn't seem to work anymore.
The only recent change she made to her computer was installing an update to Adobe Flash Player this morning.
The files that are causing the problem are simple FrameMaker files with text and a couple of graphics and text insets.
To try to figure out what the problem is, we have tried:
- creating a new copy of the file causing the problem in the error report
- removing the graphics and anchored frames on the page
- re-inserting cross references on the page
- removing the text inset on the page
Hopefully that is enough info, but let me know if you would like more. I appreciate any help you could provide.

Have you applied the Microsoft HotFix for PostScript printers? Because Acrobat works in PS, it's good to get it on your system to establish a solid baseline. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=952909
-- it applies to all PS printers, including the logical PDF.

Bruce, double-check the exact version of FM 8 that you are both using -- including the "pxxx" numbers as shown in Help > About.
Check the Adobe updates (not downloads) page to see if you both have the most recent FM version.

Version of FrameMaker was an older one, p236.
Tried the update from Windows and still got the same pdf error. Tried the patch suggested by Shlomo, worked perfectly, pdf's started printing again!!! Only lost one full work day in the process of trying to fix this silly thing!
Thanks for your help!

Windows update only updates Windows apps / operating system / Microsoft utilities and files, AFAIK it never updates anything from any other mfg, including Adobe, so it wouldn't have any effect on updating FrameMaker.
As for the Hotfix, it is *never* offered via Windows update or any Adobe update, it has to be installed by the user intentionally.
Get ready! An upgraded Adobe Community experience is coming in January.
