Point Page Numbering in FM 8?

Explorer ,
Jan 29, 2009 Jan 29, 2009
Does FM 8 allow Point-Page Numbering? That is, i might want to insert a page between Page 2 and Page 3. However, I want the new page to be numbered 2.1.
Is this available?

Thanks,
Dave

Well, mostly yes, but you need to test it because I don't know if it would work, or how it would behave, in a structured doc.

There's an undocumented Freeze Pagination feature available that, so far as I know, still works in 8. Esc p z is a toggle that turns it on and off. But it was always kind of clunky.

Rick Quatro was working on a set of scripts that greatly improved the functionality of it, but I don't know if he ever pushed it to market or not. You could ping him at rick@frameexpert.com or look over his web site...

You can't freeze pagination in a structured document.

In an unstructured document, you can try it by pressing Esc p z. The reason it is undocumented is because it resets all of your autonumbers on each page, making it fairly useless for most documents. To restore the regular pagination (and your autonumbers), press Esc p z again.

However, I have a plugin that overcomes this limitation. It is not publicly available because it isn't practical for all documents. If you are interested in seeing if it works with your documents, please contact me offlist.
