Print Color error message when updating book files

Hello:

I'm not sure if this is a Frame 8.0 quirk or not but when I update my book files I receive an error message stating that "print setting for color XX is inconsistent" for each nongenerated file in the book. I do seem to have an odd assortment of colors (such as salmon, mauve, olive, and pale/forest green) in the palette that I had not seen when using Frame 7.x.

What do I need to do to correct this and eliminate future color-related error messages?

Thanks for your assistance.

Kimberly:

Try this:

  1. In the book window, open one chapter file that has the color definitions you want (or at least can live with).

  2. Import those color definitions into all other files in the book.

  3. Re-gen the book.

Generally this will clear that particular error condition...

Cheers & hope this helps,
Riley

Riley:

But since I get this message for all of the files in the book, how would I determine which color definitions to use? Could the fact that the files originated in MS Word have something to do with these error messages?

Thanks for your suggestion---

Yes, bringing in text from Word without cleaning it up (saving FM files to MIF and opening and saving that as FM) could do it.

The correct color set would be your master template. If you don't have one, just pick any of the chapters that are working and printing correctly and use that as your master. If you'd like to be extra neat, go into the Color Definitions and delete the ones you're not using, then apply those to all files in the book. The only problem that you'd have is if you delete some colors that are actually in use; those would be converted to black.

The oddball colors threw me at first, too -- they're new to FM 8, they're not coming from Word. To test this, open FM, open a brand new, empty FM document, and look at the colors defined in it.

The reason you're getting the color definitions messages now is that your older files from FM7 don't have the same colors as the newly updated TOC or IX file(s) that you've created in FM8. Riley's suggested procedure will import the new colors into the old files and you should then be OK for those files. You'll have to do this for any book where you have some files that are originally created by FM7 though.
