Removing empty space

Hi,
I am trying to remove empty space that exists between a graphic banner and a Chapter Title. When I click in the blank area, the space and the Chapter Number Heading turns black, and Not Applicable appears in the display. I inherited this document and am not really sure about the setup.

Thank you for any help.

Cheers,

Elizabeth

First, turn on:
View » Borders
View » Text Symbols
for more contextual information about what's going on.

There are multiple things that can control that whitespace, possibly more than one active, including but not limited to:

  • Space-above for the para below.
  • Space-below for the object above.
  • Frame extents for the graphic being larger than the graphic
  • Run-around properties for the graphic
  • Any chance the whitespace is part of the graphic?

Is the graphic on the Body page or the Master Page?

Hi Elizabeth:

It's always best to post screenshots with your text symbols visible. If we can't examine the document itself, it's the best way to give us a fighting chance at a correct guess.

Can you please post the screenshot with borders and text symbols?

That gives clues as to how the document is built, and whether there's a paragraph style issue, an anchored frame, or a master page issue causing your issue.

I think I fixed the problem: I positioned the cursor in the empty space and used the Space between button and changed the amount of space.

Thank you for your suggestions and help.
