Question

S1000D Publish IETP not available

I am attempting to build an IETP from the sample S1000D bike data provided with TCS 4.  I have opened the S1000D bike sample Publication Module (PM) in Framemaker 11.  I followed  the help file instructions but have encountered a couple of issues.  First, when I attempted to set global applicability for the book, there are no applicability values available (see help file instructions below).

To implement applicability (Global) at a book level,

  1. When the book file is in focus, select S1000D > Common Source Data. The S1000D Common Source Data dialog appears.
  2. In the Common Source Data dialog, select the Applicability tab and then PCT.
  3. In the list of products, select the applicable product and click Apply.

I am beginning to think that the Book/PM is not properly set up with applicability values.

Second, the "Publish IETP" menu item is grayed out and not available.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Mike

Hi,

This is a little late but you need Technical Communication Suite installed on your machine for publish S1000D to work.

http://helpx.adobe.com/tech-comm-suite/kb/some-features-enabled-standalone-version.html

"Cannot publish IETP (S1000D) content because Adobe RoboHelp 9.0 is required to publish in AirHelp format."

I am running Tech Comm Suite version 4.  There are multiple Adobe products installed on this computer.  Stand alone versions of Framemaker were installed in the past.  Could this be an installation issue?

Hi Mike,

Sorry - I've not figured it out either. I'm still having the same issue.

I too had installed Frame as standalone for testing reasons a few months ago. After posting the above comment, I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Tech Comm Suite thinking not having RoboHelp installed was causing the problem. No luck - after a clean install a few moments ago, still no "Publish IETP...".

Given the number of standalone Frame S1000D authors and total lack of response to this question, I wouldn't be surprised if this feature simply doesn't work. We're probably the only two people in the world who've actually tried to make an IETM directly thru Frame...

I think most Frame users use the Mekon pack for authoring and ADG's R4i for DM management. This package is what I'm learning on but thought it'd be interesting to see what functionality a standalone Frame install would offer.

Off the top there's no support for Version 4.1 and you're limited to just 8 (of 17) Data Module Types: Crew, Description, Procedural IPD, ACT, PCT, CCT, and Brex.

Maybe we'll get an answer next October...

Muns

Muns,

When I have some spare time, I will try a clean install of TCS on a fresh computer to see if that might resolve the problem.  I will post the results of that test to this forum.

We strongly considered the Mekon/ADG solution for a project I am involved with but in the end decided upon another vendor.  I am curious how you feel about the Mekon/ADG solution so far.  Any insight that you can provide would be appreciated.

Mike
