Structured FrameMaker 11 Book crashes when editing books created in Frame 9

We upgraded from Structured FrameMaker 9 to 11. Now I can not open, edit, or add files to a large, multi-filed book created in 9. We are still on Windows NT, but will upgrade to Windows 7 soon. HELP please!!!

Then the thread is mis-titled, and probably should be:

"FrameMaker 11 crashes on Windows NT".

I'm amazed it installed. Even if FM11 can create, edit and save a new document, I'd be surprised if it could render one to PDF due to driver model issues.

FM9, books, and structure probably have nothing to do with the crashes.

Microsoft stopped issuing critical updates to NT4 over 9 years ago. I trust that this machine is not connected to the internet, because if it is, it's probably totally infested with malware. I wouldn't even update to Win7 in place. Wipe it and do a clean install.

I presume that "IS", in this case, stands for: Information Suicide

In today's threat environment, even with an air-gapped legacy system, you can't even afford to be
"so last week".
You can get irreversibly clobbered by a CDR or USB stick.

These people are clearly dangerously incompetent. Verifying that a major ap upgrade actually runs on your platform is elementary due diligence.

You have a much bigger problem than what platforms FM11 is supported on.

I think the best help you can get is to upgrade to Windows 7 or downgrade back to FM9. There is likely no solution to your current problem, with your current setup. I don't know that for sure, but I think it is a safe bet given the age of Windows NT. Adobe is very clear about the supported operating systems for FM11, and NT is not one of them.

You could try the usual old tricks like creating a brand new book and reconstructing it from scratch, using MIFs to transfer between FM9 and FM11, and so forth. I wouldn't have high hopes, though. Probably best to stick with FM9 until you have an OS that will support FM11.

Hi Matt,

Tom just told me you talked to him. Small world. Not sure what you mean by setting up my StructApps file to handle my doc. Remember, I've not had any acutual FrameMaker training, since ... Frame 7. My IS group just upgraded us from 9 to 11 without any support or training.
