Tagging and untagging objects

FrameMaker 2020. When I create a graphic object or a frame, it comes with no object styles. If I apply an object style, the object becomes tagged/styled.

Can it be un-tagged/styled again?

I can of course delete the object style and I presume that would make it un-tagged, but apart from that and doing magic stuff in the mif file?...

Bjørn, this is the same question as discussed in the beta forum under "How to remove a style from an object".

Untagging is not possible...

Edit 2022-06-18 10:00

The only method I have found so far is this:

Define a really empty style and name it appropriately:

  • Have the curor outside of any object (outside the text frame)
  • Use the Object Designer and set all properties to nothing/asis (empty fields, check boxes clear)
  • Save as - for example - !_None

The to "untag" apply this empty style.

KD: Save as - for example - !_None

If one wants the null Style to float to the top of the Catalog menu, it appears that the name has to start with an ASCII numeral, perhaps "0".

Perhaps: 0_{Empty}
to also avoid being seen as an FM built-in Style by some future document steward unfamiliar with the gambit.

Has anyone filed a TRACKER on this?

re: Then to "untag" apply this empty style.

Perhaps to really remove the Style from the instant object:

  1. Create the As-Is Style as described by Klaus, but…
  2. Give it a 0_{arbitrary} throw-away name.
  3. Apply it to the object to be cleaned-up.
  4. Delete Style 0_{arbitrary}.

There may be a short market window for someone to offer a script for this. It seems like an easy thing for Adobe to add a built-in {remove all Styles} entry to the top of the Style Catalog.
