Title Bar - Show DocTitle only?

New Here ,

How can I set FM8 (Windows) so that the title bar shows only the document title and not the entire pathname?

Thank you kindly,
Elchanan

I don't know if this is the same question, but if I open all the files in a book, how do I tell them apart when their shortened title bars are lined up along the bottom of the screen? They all show the same text, which is the beginning of the pathname.

Dave just checked, and at least with FM 8.0 on XP I get a tool-tip with the full path and name when I hover over the title-bar of a minimised window. The list of open documents under Window is also helpful.

Thanks for the info, Grundtvig.

The tool-tip works, but takes 2 seconds to appear on my screen, plus one second to get the mouse to that point, times 15 documents open at once, equals up to 45 seconds just to figure out which document to click on, compared to the four seconds it would take if the shortened bars had the basic sense to show the file name. I think I'll go for the Window menu.

They really should have sorted out this obvious interface problem a long time ago, but I'm not sure who "they" are. Is this an Adobe choice or a Microsoft choice to do it this way?

The tabbed bar in FM8 is another possibility, although this takes up the same quantity of screen real estate that the shortened bars take up, and would have been unnecessary if the shortened bars showed the file name as expected in the first place.

Does the following help?

In the maker.ini file, create a line

DisplayFileLeafFirst=On

(or un-comment the line if it exists already).

This should have the effect of displaying the file name before the path in the document title bar.
