Hi all,

My colleagues and I recently got TCS2017, but our welcome screens look glitchy.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I looked at those threads before posting. My screen doesn't look like either of the other's that were posted.

Also, we have IE11 installed. And we'd like to know what the fix is rather than playing around with the welcome screen files (we don't have access to the folders, so would have to go through IT).

Hi,

could you please give us a few information:

  • What is your screen resolution?
  • Are you working on a High-DPI screen with Windows Display scaling?
  • Do you have FM on your main monitor or on a second monitor?
  • What happens, when you resize the FrameMaker window?
  • Are you connected to a WLAN and have internet access?

Hi Stefan,

  • Screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 (Landscape)
  • I don't believe there is any scaling happening, how could I confirm?
  • FM launches and runs on my main monitor (moving it to the second monitor has no effect on the welcome screen).
  • Resizing the FM window has no effect on the welcome screen.
  • We have a wired connection.

Hi John,

Can you please check whether a DWORD Value named "FrameMaker.exe" is present in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION" registry key? If yes, what is the value?

Regards,

Vikas Singla

If you're asking for the value in the Data column, it's 0.x00002af9 (11001)

Also, we believe it's not a High-DPI monitor.

Yes. We were sent an updated welcome.html file to replace the current one. I believe the only difference between the files is this line: meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge"

So you may be able to try updating that line in the file. The path is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2017\fminit\dws\resources\welcomeScreen.

However, my colleague recently applied updates to FM and it re-broke his welcome screen (which makes sense if the new file was overwritten by the old-style version), but now the new file doesn't re-fix it anymore. I was meaning to bring this up with Support again.

If you try the fix, could you update the status of your situation? Thanks.

I will try it, but since I don't have Microsoft Edge (I'm running a Windows 7 machine), any idea if the content value would stay the same?

Thanks.

We're also on Windows 7 machines (both 32-bit and 64-bit among our team).
