Hi All,

I have 100 pages of Chapter File with 2 Master Pages, Master 8x11 & Master 11x17.

Both Master Pages are assigned througout the Chapter at random.

Now at Page 50, I want to insert a New Page (with Master 8x11).

Is there a way to insert a new page with new content and Push all existing pages down with existing as is???

Hope this is clear.

Are you trying to have two different page sizes in the same FM document?

If so, no. You can't do that (other than as a post-processed PDF hack).
Different layouts of the same page size, yes.

In general, doing mixed page sizes means doing the document as Book. Book component files can have different page sizes.

Hi Bob,

You are correct, actually they are both 11x17.

One Master Pages has two frames for content. Second Master Page has single frame for Drawings.

(Please note that my questions is same as the other one you had replied two days ago)

I have inherited this documents and I need to insert content in the middle pages, which will shifts all the remaining content downward; this may screwup page layouts of existing pages and I would have to re-apply master pages.

I am trying to find easier solution, but it seems FM does not have any (easy) solution for this.

re: Aixtron: actually they are both 11x17

As long as all the pages in a single .fm file are the same size, doing what you need is pretty straightforward.

Let's suppose that the basic layout is single column, but some content needs 2-column. Starting with a default portrait template, let's assume that this is only ever just a single page of such (default be to revert to single-column after page).

Decide what ¶format(s) demand the 2-column layout. Let's assume such pages always start with a Heading1.

  1. Format » Page Layout » Pagination
    (*) Double-Sided [Set]
otherwise left page options won't be visible

  2. Format » Page Layout » Apply Master pages
    aka "AMP"
This creates View » Reference Pages » MasterPageMaps
which does not exist in the template. This new RP initially contains a mostly empty table we'll edit at step #5

  3. View » Master Pages

3R. Insert » Add Master Page
    Name: Right.2col
(*) Copy from Master Page: Right [Add]
Using graphic cursor, select main page frame
    Right-click: Object Properties
    Columns: Number: 2 [Apply]
Columns: Number: 2 [Update Entire Flow]

3L. Insert » Add Master Page
    Name: Right.2col
(*) Copy from Master Page: Left [Add]
Using graphic cursor, select main page frame
    Right-click: Object Properties
    Columns: Number: 2 [Apply]
Columns: Number: 2 [Update Entire Flow]

  4. Spin-off one or more controlling ¶formats, such as:
Format » Paragraphs » Paragraph Designer
    Style: Heading1
    Style: Heading1.2col
    [Create Style]

  5. View » Reference Pages
    Page down to MasterPageMaps
    Change the blank fields to:
    Paragraph Tag Name: Heading1.2col
Right-Handed Master Page (or Single-Sided Master Page): Right.2col
    Left-Handed Master Page: Left.2col
Range Indicator (Single, Span pages, Until changed): Single
    Comments: {for stewardship}

  6. View » Body Pages
Tag the heading for 2-col pages with Heading1.2col.

Run an AMP whenever adding or subtracting content that needs diffent page layouts.

AMP also exists in the Update Book menu.
I don't rely on it.

Why doesn't FM do all this WYSISYG?
In part due to product history; in part due to the consequences of doing a page re-map resulting in potentially oscillating instability, as content is moved around somewhat unpredictably.
