I'm having issues with Fresco where it freezes and immediately crashes after
moving, zooming or rotating the canvas. This issue only happens in a session
where a tool, such as a pixel brush, has been used prior to using fingers on
the touch screen to zoom/rotate/move the canvas.
Old and new files alike, no matter the canvas size.
Same issue with integrated AMD GPU and dedicated NVIDIA GPU.
Sometimes it takes 2 to 5 minutes. Sometimes it happens instantly, rotation
movements seem to make it crash faster.
Using the touch pad to zoom/rotate/move the canvas does not cause the issue --
only when using the touch screen.
While in Fresco's Transform Mode, the issue does not occur even if tools were
used prior to entering Transform Mode.
My laptop meets all the Fresco requirements, it's an ASUS ProArt PX13, freshly
installed and updated (including latest drivers for chipset, iGPU and dGPU,
touch screen and stylus). Fresco has been re-installed as well, and standard
troubleshooting steps have been performed. 5.5.5 and 5.7.0 versions of Fresco
share the same issue. Note: I also have a Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop, on
which this is not an issue.
The Windows Event viewer confirmed that the faulty module is always the
Microsoft.InputStateManager.dll. A file installed by Fresco, in Fresco's
folder. Replacing the dll by newer versions, taken from other softwares
on my computers and Microsoft's developer site, does not solve the issue or
just isn't compatible with Fresco.
If anyone is experiencing the same, please share below! Any help fixing the
issue is appreciated.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASUS ProArt XP13 (HN7306WV) Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
iGPU: AMD Radeon 890M
dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
Fresco's Microsoft.InputStateManager.dll details:
Version 10.0.22624.1040, seemingly one of the versions of Windows App SDK v1.4.
Tried latest v1.4.7: same issue.
Tried newer versions from 1.5, 1.6 & 1.7 and the same issue is or Fresco doesn't start.
Fresco tools tried that cause the issue (either with fingers or stylus/pen):
- Pixel brush
- Eraser
- Smudge
- Live brushes
- Vector brushes
- Lasso
Other tools tried that do no cause the issue (requiring clicking, not dragging):
- Bucket
- Text
Standard troubleshooting steps tried:
- Tried on a second fresh Windows install.
- Tried on a second local user account.
- Update drivers.
- Rebooting.
- Clear CMOS/BIOS.
- Reinitialize Fresco settings.
- Reinstall Fresco (both 5.5.5 and 5.7.0)
- Update and repair MS VS C++ redistributables.
- Old and new canvas. Small and big canvas.
- ASUS Pen 2.0 and Microsoft Slim Pen 2
- Completely disabling the NVIDIA GPU device.

By the way, yes it is possible to recreate this bug by drawing with a finger (instead of a pen) then rotating the canvas. But it is MUCH harder to make it crash this way. If you are going to try to recreate this bug, please use a pen/stylus to draw, then your fingers to move the canvas.
