Question

Input lag when using Surface Slim Pen 2 with Fresco 5.5.0

When using Fresco with my Surface Slim Pen 2 on my Surface Pro 9 there is a considerable delay or lag between contacting the canvas with the tip of the pen to when it actually begins drawing.

This issue does not occur when using my finger to draw on the surface.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this issue?

The issue is the same with Lenovo ThinkPad Detachable gen. 2 and Lenovo Yoga Pen.

Everything works perfectly fine with OneNote.

Hello @realFoobar,

Have you tried manually reinstalling the Yoga Pen drivers and disabling Windows Ink in the settings to see if that helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm having this exact problem on my Surface Pro 8. It only affects Fresco, and, like you, using my finger works fine.

Please let me know if you find a fix!

Hi @jeffkhuu,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I understand how input lag can disrupt your workflow. Would you mind trying the below steps to resolve the delay with your Surface Slim Pen 2 on Fresco:

1. Check Windows Ink Settings:

 - Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.

 - Ensure that "Let me use my pen as a mouse" is disabled.

2. Update Drivers:

 - Visit the Microsoft website or use Windows Update to ensure all drivers, including Surface firmware, graphics drivers, and the Surface Pen drivers, are up-to-date.

3. Reset Pen Calibration:

 - Open the Calibrate tool by searching "Calibrate" in Windows.

 - Recalibrate your pen input for better accuracy and responsiveness.

4. Low battery levels on the Slim Pen 2 can cause performance delays. Make sure it’s fully charged.

5. To isolate whether the issue is Fresco-specific or Surface-specific, test your pen with another app (like OneNote or Photoshop). Let us know if the delay persists there.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a compatibility problem between Fresco and the Surface Pen drivers. Please share any additional details, such as when this issue started or whether it happens in all Fresco files.

Let me know how it goes!

Best,

I'm experiencing the same issue.

Bought Asus PX13 few days ago. Pen was working well, untill yesterday windows installed a bunch of updates.

I can't tell which one is a culprit, but something happend. Now in Frisco a pen is like frozen when you touch the screen, then it catches up, straight line appears first then it starts to register pen movement. It happens every time I touch the screen.

Pen works fine in Photoshop

Below is an example.

I'm drawing a wavy line each time - notice the initial straight line.

This is exactly what I am seeing on my Surface Pro 10 and Surface slim pen 2....really laggy, a straight line and then whatever I'm trying to draw. It's making it impossible to draw anything
