Adobe Application Manager won't install

New Here ,
Aug 01, 2015 Aug 01, 2015

While trying to install Camera Raw 9.1.1 I encountered a problem with Adobe Application Manager. I received an error message that says it is damaged or missing. I then tried to do a fresh install of AAM using the link provided here Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager : Thank You

The installer started but did not complete. It gave the message "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem". A link is provided for that Advisor but when I click it I am told that it has been discontinued.

Here is an excerpt from the tail end of the log file PDApp.txt:

The user name "Adobe Install Guy" refers to the new user I was advised to set up during a chat session with Adobe Support. The tech's idea was that a fresh user would have less history which might prevent installer packages form operating correctly. That did not solve the problem.

Other relevant information: Following advice given in Adobe support available in forums, I had deleted CS6 and run the Adobe CC Cleaner application, then reinstalled CS6. It would not accept my perpetual license. However I could complete the installation as a trial. There is no obvious way for me to input the license. Even worse, I can't open even really old raw camera files (for example, from a D700), therefore Adobe Camera Raw must be at a tremendously ancient version. There is no way to update it, because AAM is "damaged or missing".

Even worse than THAT, the clock is ticking as I write this for my CS6 installation because it is at a trial status, not licensed even though I have a valid serial number. For all intents and purposes, the failure of Adobe's installation engine has destroyed my multi hundred dollar investment in Photoshop CS6 which was THEORETICALLY perpetually licensed. This is an epic fail on Adobe's part, for which I hope they have a solution.

This PC has Windows 7 64-bit. My long history of successful operation of Adobe products on this PC includes Photoshop CS5 and CS6, and Lightroom 3, 4, 5, and 6. I am not new to Adobe products by any measure. I have made many successful updates to ACR in the past, and this problem with AAM is quite new.

I went through the steps above but there were some exceptions, and ultimately this did not resolve the problem with AAM.

Step 1, there was no sub folder Adobe Application Manager. There was an OOBE and  I deleted it.

Step 2 done, no issues.

1st "Step 3", there was no subfolder AAMUpdater. There was an OOBE and I deleted it.

2nd "Step 3", I ran the installer but it halted with "We've encountered the following issues: Sorry, there seems to be a problem with the installation process. (Error code: A12E1). For troubleshooting tips, please visit our customer support page."

Here are my results when I followed the steps in message 5 above:

Step 1: done

Step 2: done, and what I saw was that it was already configured with the 1st checkbox activated only, with no others. No change was needed, and no change was made.

Step 3: I deleted OOBE. There was no Adobe Applications Manager folder present.

There IS a folder named AAMUpdaterInventory. Should I delete it?

Sorry for late reply, u know weekend.

Do not delete AAMUpdaterinventory.

Will do one thing , we need check with Access Denied error 5 as mentioned in error log even error  code 46, mainly due to insufficient permissions.

Instead of checking with different stuffs , directly we will enable Hidden Admin account which has Super user privileges .

First thing :

1)Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and look for file named hosts inside etc folder.

2)Copy the hosts file to Desktop and open the same with notepad.

Let me know whether you can see any Adobe related entries inside Hosts file like 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com.......etc??

NO Adobe entries in Hosts , then only follow below steps.

Follow below steps :

Step 1)

Press Windows key , it will take you to Windows tiles menu.

In the tiles menu , type CMD .

It will provide Command Prompt option is search results.

Right click on Command Prompt option and then select " Run as Administrator"  .

302x115ximage6.png.pagespeed.ic.TIqGdF87GM.jpg

It will open Command Prompt window in elevated mode.

Step 2)

Now copy below command then right click on Command Prompt black screen window and select Paste option and press Enter key.

net user administrator /active:yes

484x211ximage7.png.pagespeed.ic.UL9DEePAvt.png

You should see a message that the command completed successfully.

Step 3)

Restart the computer and login to user account named " Administrator"  and then launch Creative Cloud desktop app and check .

384x213ximage8.png.pagespeed.ic.tuGeRMtR5J.jpg

Once you had logged in to Hidden Administrator account . follow steps I mentioned earlier .

Make sure no Adobe processes are running in Task Manager .

Make sure the folders I mentioned are deleted or renamed,.

Then Check Whether LAN settings is set to detect settings Automatically.

If it is okay , disable Anti-Virus and Firewall temporarily. [ Optional]

Then try t o install Adobe Application Manager again ,.

Note : To Disable Hidden Admin account :   net user administrator /active:no

I started CS6 and tried to check for updates, but it's still telling me that AAM is damaged or missing.

[edit: I just now noticed you had a prior message regarding firewalls etc. I will attempt to follow those instructions. But I have a question: why is it that after years of successful use and updates, that all of a sudden I have to be concerned about firewalls and virus checkers? That has never been a problem in the past.]
