The Indesign cs2 installer doesn't work

New Here ,
Jan 09, 2015 Jan 09, 2015

It keeps saying it was interrupted and quits. Also when I put in the serial number it doesn't do anything. I can't remove the program either.

Bluewisteria do you receive any specific error messages?  What operating system are you attempting to install InDesign CS2 on?  Is this a new installation or a reinstallation?

I had downloaded the CS2 system from here

Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3

and saved all files in the same folder.

The PC is new, with Windows7 (32bit). For reasons of backward compatibility

I have to use such a legacy equipment (I own as well CS6).

The installation starts by clicking on CreativeSuiteCS2Disc1.exe and ends

with a prompt Insert Disc2. Of course the disc is not accepted.

How can I continue? This issue has been discussed here a couple of times,

but I didn't find a solution.

At this time Photoshop, Bridge and some fragments of InDesign are installed.

Photoshop works fine. InDesign and Illustrator are missing.

Clicking on CreativeSuiteCS2Disc2.exe starts the installer again, but without

usable results.

How can we extract EXE files? And why is it necessary for self-extracting(?) EXE files?

http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.html

Some 'extracted' information:

1. Uninstall existing CS2 applications

If you have CS2, CS2 applications, Acrobat 7, or Audition 3 installed on your computer, uninstall them.

Note: If you installed CS2, make sure to uninstall all applications in the suite.

Windows

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs. Select the CS2 applications you want to uninstall and click  Remove.

Mac OS...

2. Download and install CS2 applications

You can use the serial numbers provided as a part of the download only if you legitimately purchased CS2, CS2 applications, Acrobat 7, or Audition 3.

Make sure that your computer meets these requirements: ...

Select the language in which you bought the application: ...

Sign in using your Adobe ID (usually your email address) and password. If you don't have an Adobe ID, click Get an Adobe ID...

3...

4...

5...

6...

7. Extract or double-click the downloaded file and follow the onscreen prompts to install the application.

Problems:

I'm having problems downloading or extracting

–Try downloading again with a different web browser.

–Try extracting the files again.

I'm having problems installing

– Invalid serial number error...

– Insert disc two alert

1. Copy the contents of the C:\Creative Suite\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\ folder to the C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\ folder.

2. Reinstall the application.

(End of info by Adobe, bold by me)

each of the 3 exe files are self-extracting.

click each and they will extract into a directory.  unfortunately they won't extract into the same directory so after all extraction completes move all the extracted files to the same directory and click setup.

Thanks – sorry – I don't understand.  In Windows 7 I can't extract an EXE file explicitly

into a destination. Such a self-extracting EXE file is just executed, obviously based on

a hidden extraction.

again,

1. click each and they will extract into a directory.

2. after all extraction completes move all the extracted files to the same directory

3. click setup in the directory where you moved the files.

In Windows 7 (32bit) it's not possible to extract a self-extracting  EXE  file into a folder

explicitly (without executing), neither by left/right/single or double clicking.

I've tried Universal Extractor v.1.61.1 and I could extract the three EXE-files into one folder.

I've uninstalled the already working Photoshop CS2 and started the whole process once

again. It works until 'Insert Disk2' and then everything fails.

Here is another recommendation:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1337558?tstart=0

This is based on Adobe's enigmatic remark on filename/path confusion (as quoted by

me previously in #6).

http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.html

Photoshop CS2 is working perfectly, despite the much newerOS. It's really a pity that the

installer seems to be somewhat sick or crazy

again,

1. click each and they will extract into a directory.

ie, just click (or double click) each exe.  they will extract into a folder (that you do not specify).

G. Hoffman -- I had the same issue but found a note about installation errors here: Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3

To wit:

"

Insert disc two alert

1. Copy the contents of the C:\Creative Suite\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\ folder to the C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0\ folder.

2. Reinstall the application.

"

This solved the problem for me, however, InDesign rejected the supplied serial number after installation (though Photoshop did not).

chipnyman,

thanks for the feedback. I had allready mentioned this solution in #10, but it didn't work

either. Meanwhile I found a simple remedy:

I installed CS2 from disk, and because it's an academic (teacher) version it doesn't need

activation...

Meanwhile other dark clouds are darkening the sun:

I cannot install (additionally) CS6 because ' the installer could not be initialized'. This is a

very common error and I think I've read all these cute suggestions how to overcome the

problem, especially this one:

1. Uninstall CS6

2. Apply the Adobe Clean Tool (something like that)

3. Re-Install CS6

There is not even a log-file.

Without having installed CS2 the situation is just the same.

Before I click "setup" I noticed no InDesign files. Will InDesign install and work properly from

WinCS2_install_Win.pdf1130-1414-7569-4457-6613-5551
CreativeSuiteCS2Disc1.exe
CreativeSuiteCS2Disc2.exe
CreativeSuiteCS2Disc3.exe
VCS2.zip
CS_2.0_WWE_Extras_1.exe

or do I have to download and install ID_CS2_UE_NonRet.exe

What do you think
