Expanded Blending Modes for Material Blend Node

Community Beginner ,
Aug 19, 2025 Aug 19, 2025

Dear Substance Designer Team,

I’d like to request an enhancement to the Material Blend node.

Currently, in version 15.0.1, the Material Blend node offers a shortened list of blending modes compared to the standard Blend node. Notably, the Overlay blending mode is missing, along with several others.

Expanding the available blending modes in the Material Blend node would significantly improve usability and consistency when working with layered materials.

Thank you for considering this request.

Best regards.

Forgot to mention, I would like to suggest to add Normal Combine node functionality to the Material Blend node. This way we'll be able to use Material Blend node in a much wider range of scenarions in comparison to what we have.

You're request is a sensible idea.
While it is considered by Adobe, you could in the meantime open the reference for the material blend node (Ctrl+E) then save a copy of the node with a new name such as Material_Blend_Copy.
Then open that copy which should now be editable, modify the input parameters to add the additional blend nodes that appear in the standard blend node. These must be in the same order as the standard blend node. Then save the modified node and use it in your graph (just drag it in).

Thank you, Dave. It helped a lot. I didn't know about Ctrl+E.
