Expanded functionality and improving UX on bitmap node

Community Beginner ,

Hi Substance team,

I have been using the bitmap node more and more recently, and it has been mostly great to work with.

I am hoping for some UX improvement for the bitmap node, such as adding a shortcut to change brush size, being able to easily toggle pen pressure (like in Painter).

Some simple cut and move tools within the bitmap node itself would also be nice. As well as color palette.

I know some of these features are harder to implement than the others but I would like to see the Bitmap node be improved upon. I would love to be able to work non-destructively in a node-based system like Designer as opposed to Photoshop, or having a more limited procedural toolset like in Painter.

Thank you!

Hello @chun_wei,

Thank you for the message.

It's interesting to see someone using the Bitmap node for the painting functionalities. I think rather than improving the Bitmap node, we could have a node fully dedicated to Painting.

I know it's not exactly the same thing and it is especially not as intuitive as the Bitmap node, but if you're looking for non-destructive brushes, our Path nodes can be a really powerful solution.

Best regards,

Hi Cyril,

You're right. A node dedicated to painting would be awesome, especially if it supports 3D painting like what others have suggested here.

Paths and splines are super awesome and great addition to the toolkit, but sometimes when I want to paint something specific (such as making decals), it's much quicker to paint it manually.

Perhaps I should stick to painting in another software like Photoshop and saving it to get the updates. But I thought since the bitmap node already has a pretty good painting functionality, adding shortcut controls to brush sizes would be easier to implement.

I would be happy to have either solutions.

Thank you for replying!
