Files won't close when doing a Save...

Explorer ,
Jul 30, 2025 Jul 30, 2025

Files will not close if it is the only file open. Cannot even quit Illustrator, have to open task manager and force close, then it tries to do a file recovery when Illustrator is re-opened.

Whenever it asks for recovery, please submit a report with your email ID. The team would be able to track these reports.

It's not giving me the option to submit a report... I just says it recovered from a crash and asks me to resave the files... Does it store a txt file on the computer (Win PC) that I can copy/paste here?

Crash information is stored locally and can be shared with us. Can you please for crash reports in support files? Please paste the following in the run window.
%AppData%\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2025\en_US\Support Files\CrashReports

In case this is not available, can you please look for .dmp files. Run the following command on run window.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps

Let me know if this works.

Also, would you please be able to share your Beta version and when did this first happen - did you update your Beta app?

I'm using Beta version 29.8, I have even uninstalled & reinstalled with no better luck. I've also noticed that Adobe InDesign runs very slowly if I open Illustrator or Illustrator Beta, InDesign still runs very slowly even after closing them. If I close all Adobe Illustrator/InDesign products and just reopen InDesign, it runs fairly smoothly.

I'm running an i9-14900KF (3.20ghz) Processor with 32gb RAM & and Nvidia GeFortce RTX 4070 w/12gb RAM

This path doesn't work for me (%AppData%\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2025\en_US\Support Files\CrashReports)

I navigated to: %AppData%\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 29.8.0 Beta Settings\en_US\x64

and found this:

DB_CrashRecovery.log

Hi JSFoster75,

To help us resolve the issue more quickly, would you be available for a debug session at your convenience? This will allow us to analyze the problem in real time and work towards a solution faster. Please let me know a suitable time for you.

Sure, just let me know.

Yesterday, I uninstalled everything but Acrobat and rebooted, then ran a registry cleaner, then reinstalled. So far things seem to be running a bit smoother but I haven't used Illustrator much since then.

Let me know if you face this issue again. Accordingly, I will schedule a meeting to debug it.

Well, I just had the same issue with Illustrator 29.7.1. I had a complex file open, I did a Ctrl+S to save it, then attempted to close the file and it refused to close. I finally went to my Task Manager and forced Illustrator to close, when I reopened Illustrator, it asked me to resave the recovered file, but still did not generatea .dmp file or a crash log...

1 note, if I have multiple files open, it will close all but 1. If there is only 1 file open, it will not close it...

Hi @JSFoster75

If you have reproducible steps, would you be available for a debug session at your convenience? This will help us analyze the issue in real time and work toward a faster resolution.

I'm not sure if it is reproducible, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I'm at my PC Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm EST

I seem to have determined at least part of the problem.

After completely uninstalling (including user preferences), registry cleaning, reinstalling. As long as I create a new file, it will work perfectly. If I open an old file (anything created prior to uninstall/reinstall) and try to do anything with it, the file will not close and I have to force Illustrator to close. (Illustrator 29.7.1 64 bit)

Having the exact same issues.
Have employed your workaround to create a new file, copy and paste my old content into the new file, and save it again.

Hey there,

We're also having some issues with some of our users.

One of them are using Adobe Illustrator version 29.71

On some files Adobe Illustrator closes without any problem, while on others the program just wont close down.

We have to close the program without saving, even though it's already saved.

Any help is appreciated.
