Hi friends not really Illustrator centric more general graphic design but:

Every Hex to CMYK converter I find online lists the CMYK equivalent for this as

70, 0, 4, 30

However in illustrator it looks like a completely darker, more blue color.

If i type in 00B2A9 and then convert in illustrator to CMYK it comes out more or less the same color and is like this:

76, 4, 40, 0

Are all the conversion tools out there wrong? Have never come across this before

Yes the conversion tools are wrong.

They don't use color management but a simple formula to convert between RGB and CMYK.

They assume that every RGB is the same and that CMY inks use perfect pure pigments, which is not the case.

Online converters cannot be trusted AT ALL. NEVER use them

Hex numbers are just RGB values in letter hex form, so your 00B2A9 = 0R 178G 169B.

This is a teal colour, certainly.

What you got for CMYK values from your online source are waaay off as you barely have any yellow in it and a hella amount of black. Not at all in the ballpark.

If you are looking for a CMYK value for something you are producing in Print, make sure you have appropriate Color  Settings (ICC profiles) for your print situation in your Adobe apps, and use them to convert. EVERY different combination of these will produce different results required for that situation – There are no standard conversion values.
