Can anyone suggest a Fix to have Adobe - Open & work with PDF's?

I checked on "updates" and the App was just updated - and not working

Correct answer Bobby Henderson

It sounds like something is wrong with the computer's installation of Illustrator. Like Monika said, rebooting the computer and resetting Illustrator's Preferences file can sometimes fix problems. Stubborn issues might require use of the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to completely remove Illustrator so it can be re-installed cleanly.

I have been dealing with a different bug that requires running more than one build of Illustrator on the same machine to work around it. Installing the previous version of Illustrator along side the current one may be another way to get around your PDF issue.

Not all PDF files are created the same. A PDF output from Adobe Illustrator using default settings will have Illustrator data appended to it. That is about as edit-friendly as PDF files can be. If the PDF is created by any other application it will likely be a challenge to open it for any further editing. Technically PDF files are not meant to be edited further. They're only meant to be viewed or printed.

What is happening when you try to open or place the affected PDF in Adobe Illustrator? Do you know what application was used to create the PDF? That can often be determined by opening the PDF in Adobe Acrobat, right-clicking in the work space and choosing Properties from the flyout menu. Click the "Description" tab in the Document Properties dialog box and it should list which application created the PDF.

Hi Bobby,

I understand that some PDF's are not able to open in AILL. My problem is that the Upgrade from 02-13 is not allowing any PDF's to open. The preview is Off to the upper Right and the APP Freezes - then shuts down. There is no Fix??

Thanks,

Stephen

Did you already reboot the computer?

Reset the preferences?

Where is the PDF located?

Is it a large PDF?

Can you open other PDFs?
