2019 Illustrator Direct Selection tool lost functionality

After downloading Illustrator 2019, my direct selection tool is no longer multi-functional. Is there a way to restore its ability to transform as it has in the past. I feel so much less agile in this version of Illustrator without having the Direct Selection tool's multi-functional capability!

Oh my goodness! Forgive me, this flu I have has gone to my head! No wonder everyone's confusion!

I meant to say the Selection tool (the black one, not the white one that maneuvers anchor points and lines. Never mind me, I've only been using this software for over ten years! LOL!) So sorry everyone! It is the Selection Tool not the Direct Select tool to which I am referring.

Ack, sorry you're not feeling well.

In any case, the Selection tool/Bounding Box functionality has not changed either, so is it possible you've unknowingly toggled the Bounding Box view off? Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+B hides/shows the Bounding Box.

If you don't see it with an object selected and the Selection tool active, it is either hidden or you need a preferences reset.

This happened to me what solved in was using the wireframe view. I have been using it in realistic view the whole time until my selction boxes got hidden somehow in 2019. It is switch back and forth using ctrl + y that is better

If you have selected with the Direct Selection tool, you can get the transform function by switching to the Free Transform Tool.

    Hi,

Double-check to make sure you don’t accidentally have the Group Selection tool chosen. It has a white arrow and looks like the Direct Selection tool, but it also has a plus sign on it.

The Direct Selection tool still works as it has in the past, so this is the first thing I would check.

No, it is the Direct Selection tool, not the Group Selection tool. I am trying to use the Direct Selection tool to manipulate the transformation functions of the bounding box as I have used for years. Has this capacity been done away with for good, or does something need to be adjusted in order to restore its previous function? It will now simply only select an object, nothing else.

In which version do you think this was the case?

For transforming with the bounding box you always had to use the selection tool.

Yes, indeed, it has in the past, but it seems to no longer be functional in this capacity in Illustrator 2019. I know that I can perform the same function using the Freeform tool, but it is a pain and much slower.
