3D and Materials Issue – Jagged Edges

New to using ai's 3D inflate tool and unsure how to remedy an issue. I've made a couple 3D projects so far and haven't run into this yet. I keep getting very jagged edges and crinkles. Text is outlined and I've tried adding a bunch of space between the letters and curving each corner, but the jagged edges remain. Also tried these things with Ray Tracing on (and off) and the jagged edges remain. Tried messing with some other 3D settings too but nothing helps. It seems like something obvious but not sure what...thought maybe my hardware isn't up to snuff but seems to meet the minimum requirements unless I'm missing something.

Attached images with and without ray tracing, as well as my settings.

The deets:

Illustrator 27.3.1
2019 iMac Ventura 13.0
Processor: 3.1 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
Graphics: Radeon Pro 575X 4GB
Memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4)

I've been having a similar issue, nothing seems to fix it. The only 'fix' I've been able to figure out so far just masks the problem, however it does look better than the jagged edges. I've been creating clipping masks with a slightly negative off-set, this almost trims the jagged edges away. A bit of a pain if you are still editing artwork, but works somewhat well for the final version of artwork. Would be ideal if Adobe could just fix this issue already.

Make sure the object you are applying the 3D effect to is outlined < copy this object before making it 3D < render the 3D object as best as possible < paste the object from your clipboard in the exact same spot < remove any outlines/fill on this top object (the pasted object) < go to object -> path -> offset path, and type in a negative number in the 'offset' box (such as -2px) < select the new offset path and the 3D object < create a clipping mask. This should mask the jagged edges, a temporary anf fiddely fix but the best I've been able to come up with:)

Removing the stroke and leaving it transparent solves the problem — at least in my case.

Hey, had all day losing my mind over this. No solutions anywhere. I got the best results by selecting the text I was having trouble with (jagged/pixelated edges). Going into the 3D and materials effect in the appearance menu.

Click the top right drop down arrow next to render with ray tracing square. (Make sure this square is also deselected).

Then DESELECT render with ray tracking
Deselect render as vector
Deselect wireframe

Click Render.

Go to Effect > Document raster effects settings > select 'other' (below 300) > Input 500 or similar

Got me the best results.

Where is the "wireframe" option? Unfortunately nothing changed for me with all the steps (aside from wireframe)

Hello @nicolelynnkline,

We understand that seeing jagged lines on your work can be a frustrating experience. We hope that the recommendations provided by Monika were able to solve the issue. If not, could you kindly provide more information, such as your system configuration (CPU/GPU/Memory), and a sample file (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967531), so that we can further investigate the matter?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

This is a weird issue that comes up every now and then and I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution to it yet.

Sample file means an AI file that they need for investigation

There have been reports of this every now and then.

Can you try and increase the resolution in Effects > Document Raster Effects Settings?
