Question

3D effect crashes Illustrator before it can be applied.

Hello everyone.

So any time I choose the 3D effect, it pauses the program for about 15 - 20 seconds before quitting abruptly without any warning message.

Same thing happens if I try to add the effect to the UI via "Window".

The classic 3D works fine, as well as everything else from what I can see. No lag issues either.

My system specs:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz 2.11 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
Product ID 00325-96660-39224-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2
OS build 22621.1635

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello @Padraig5C3C,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, kindly try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows) and check if it helps.

Also, try performing a clean reinstallation of the GPU drivers (Intel / NVIDIA / AMD) and setting the Graphics Preference to High-Performance for Illustrator (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-110) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

So this also happens when you apply a 3D effect to a simple rectangle?

Hi Monika, thanks for replying. Unfortunately yes it does! Except for Classic mode, that works perfectly, just the other options. Inflate etc.

As far as I'm reading your specifications there should be sufficient RAM, but the processor speed is not that much. What kind of graphics card is installed?

Just a bit more info: I've resetted preferences, turned on and off GPU performance, rebooted the computer, rebooted the computer in safe mode - still happened, no information or warning provided - and I'm only working with basic rectangles. Every 3D effect causes this crash except for Classic 3D.

I have re-installed it numerous times, as well as numerous different versions including the oldest version on Cloud.
