i'm using Illustrator and I need to type in Portuguese/Spanish so i need to use accents like áàê

Everywhere else on Mac OS if I long press the key I get an accent pop up, like this:

In adobe products, this never shows up.

Am i missing something here or does Adobe products don't let this native pop up show up?

hi, thanks for the reply.

yes, i'm aware you can do that and bring up the glyphs window, but it's not practical at all if you're trying to write long blocks of text.

This is an oldie, but a goodie.

[Option n] = tilde (til) - ã

[Option `] = grave accent (crase) - à

[Option e] = acute (acento agudo) - é

[Option i] = circumflex (acento circunflexo) - ê

[Option c] = cedilla (cê cedilha) - ç

Try option e, then type the next character you want the accent to  go over o and you get  ó

I find this method faster than what the Mac OS has of holding down a letter then waiting & typing, and hope you will enjoy this also.

Some additional letters of interest

[Option u, u] = Umlaut - ü

[Option 1] = Beginning exclamation mark ¡

[Shift Option ?] = Beginning question mark - ¿

[Option O] = Masculine Ordinal Number - º

[Option 9] = Feminine Ordinal Number - ª

[Option A] = Nordic A Rng - å Å

[Option O] = Nordic A Slash - ø Ø

Go to Window > Type > Glyphs to open the Glyphs panel. If additional characters with accents are available in the font you have selected, it will show up there. If you select a character in your text that has alternate glyphs, it should show up in a box below your selection. Here's more info on alternate glyphs How to work with special characters in Illustrator

Thanks for all the replies, all these workarounds are options, but neither is ideal - the accent pop up still feels like the easiest and fastest one (at least for me).

I was just using Adobe XD the other day and there the accent pop up shows up fine.

I'll just open an Illustrator feature request ticket.
