I have been on sabatical from Illustrator for several years now, and have recently come back to find that it no longer works like it used to. I used to be able to draw a pointer arrow (using the pen tool, draw a straight line and then a diagonal line, and add an arrow to the end of it.) Now when I try to do that, it adds an arrowhead to EVERY ANCHOR POINT. I just want to draw an attractive arrow to point to areas on a drawing (I am a technical writer). How can I add an arrowhead to the set of two lines that forms the basis for my arrow, and have it ONLY put the arrowhead on the very end? It makes no sense that anyone would want to add an arrowhead to three parts of a line? Please help.

Is the path you are creating a continuous path or is it two separate ones?

I think I figured out how to accomplish my task (from a YouTube video). I've never really understood the concept of "path" in Illustrator. What does that mean?

Susan,
A path corresponds to a line drawn by hand, consisting of anchor points and one or more straight/curved segments, and having stroke and/or fill or neither.
Most of what you create consists of paths.
