Adding artboards

Community Beginner ,
Nov 16, 2017 Nov 16, 2017

I have a document that I created with four artboards.

I have since deleted two of them, done some work and saved to two new versions.

Now I'm trying to add a third artboard and it hangs Illustrator every time.

I have tried using the toolbar, and using the Artboards palette. Instant beachball every time.

Do you have artboards with 0 spacing between them by any chance? Alternately, you can try duplicating artboards if you want them to be of the same size. To duplicate artboards you can use alt/option + drag any artboard or use the command in artboard panel fly-out options.

Thanks & Regards

What version Illustrator & OS?

Try the artboard flyout menu >> rearrange artboards.

If you still have trouble please show a screenshot zoomed all the way out is we can see how close you artboards come to the canvas edge. Let us know what size artboards you have, we don't know if you are 8.5" x 11" or 100" x 100".

May also not even be and arboards issue, but a your software serialization and Adobe Cloud app. Need more info to better assist you.

I am running CC 2018, updated this week. Mac OS 10.11.06

Artboards are letter size, arranged across. One row. VERY far from the canvas edge.

The flyout menu "Arrange All Artboards" does not seem to have an option for adding an artboard.Screen Shot 2017-11-16 at 11.55.02 AM.png

I tried adding an artboard from the Palette, using both the clickable icon and the command "New Artboard."
Both commands made the program hang.

Rearrange aboard does not let you add them, but was hoping that would clear something up.

Some things to try

  1. Try using the artboard tool to manually move an artbaord.
  2. Make sure your artboard names do not have any characters liek" : / \".
  3. Copy your items into a new document
  4. Test if you are having any issues like this with a new document. So we can confirm if the issue is just with this one document  or possibly a conflict on your install.

If you have any more trouble please post a zoomed out screenshot of your entire screen shooing the artboards and artboard palette. The screenshot often tell us a lot, and you get a quicker resolution.

The option-drag artboard idea works fine. Thanks.

Yes; I'm creating documents with multiple artboards with 0 spacing between them.

But you should really look into that bug in the "Add Artboard" button and command. It's still hanging my program.
