Question

Adding gradient effect to stroke not happening

Hello everyone. I keep trying to add gradient to a stroke, but all that does is turn the stroke into black. I watched numerous tutorials, none have helped me. It would help me A LOT if someone explained this to me. I use Illustrator cc 2015.

Thanks in advance!

Please show us a screenshot of your stroke (selected) and the appearance panel open.

It's likely that your stroke is a calligraphy brush.

Select your stroke

Go to Object Menu

Select "Expand Appearance"

Now you can apply a gradient fill. The only thing is this changes your stroke to an object. So, to be safe make a duplicate of it before you do this.
