Hi all! Is there a way to add text to a curved surface (in this case an oval) and have the letters follow the curve... but each letter remains in its original vertical position? Does that make sense? Let me know if I'm not explaining it well enough. Thanks.
In the Type on a Path Options you can try the Stair Step effect.
Fine tune it through the Character palette.

Sure... here you go. See the second one... it's text around a curve. But the letters are facing (something like) 15 degrees , 10 degrees, etc. to the left and right. See the bottom one? I did this by hand... but it's supposed to show the letters on the same curve, but not tilting to the right and left.

Where is this Stair Step option/window?
UPDATE: Found it. I didn't realize "Type" was an option up top, and thought you were referring to the Type Tool, which also has a "Type on a path" sub selection. (oh Adobe....*sigh*)

Where is this Stair Step option/window? Does it exist in Illustrator 2019?

Select the Text on a path and then double click the text tool.
