Hey!
Works with the conversion of pixelated illustrations into vector graphics (black and white only) and need to speed up the process a little. The Adobe Illustrator Live Trace tool is what I am investigating now but initially need to be able to make even more adjustments with threshold values, noise etc so that I do not have to spend all the time on the post-retouch. At present, it takes as long to work around with the pen and take out anchor points manually as it takes to run the Live Trace operation AND then correct everything in the end anyway!
Is there anyone who knows where to get more info?
Thanks!
/ Johan

Live Trace has never been a feature that can be relied on for consistent fidelity in the transition from raster to vector. Whether the results are usable is a decision that can only be made on a case by case basis. In my opinion, even with the best tweaks, it is not something that can be relied on as part of a regular workflow.

Yes, my aim is to investigate IF Live Trace will save me time. Otherwise I'll just keep on working manually. This needs to be very precise and on the spot accurate. I'm working with 3 decimals on a thousandth of a millimeter. I just finds it rather frustrating the system doesn't see there shouldn't be any untied ends or extra curves on a relatively simple illustration. I just thought adjusting thresholds and such could reduce a lot of that but no. Thanks for clarifying!

Then I think your investigation is over. Live trace isn't reliable enough for this.

You are probably right. As long as the silly line is 1,621 mm wide I'm happy. But that I can arrange after I'm done Live Tracing. You might think I'm working with some rocket science but trust me, I'm not.

Did you try the Batch Processing from Adobe Bridge > Tools > Illustrator…?
Could this help?
Also there are Vector optimizing Tools from Astute Graphics…

Batch processing? Currently I don't understand how Adobe Bridge could help. I like working in Bridge though... Please explain. Meanwhile I'll look into Astute Graphics. Thanks!

You mean the manual for Illustrator CC and specifically the chapter on Live Trace? Just briefly here on line at Adobe.com.
