Adobe Ilustrator CC 2018 runs slow

Hi everyone,

I have been using Adobe for ages now and never had this issue before. I work with a series of Adobe products such as Photoshop, Indesign, Premier... and they all work fine. But since a month ago suddenly my Illustrator started to run very slowww. When I use a pen tool it automatically clicks here and there. Or when I use the other tools it takes ages to perform a command.

I have tried reinstalling the Adobe Illustrator (CC2017), updating it, deleting it totally from the mac and reinstalling again. Now I installed the new version Illustrator CC 2018, still the same problem. But Adobe Photoshop and Indesign or the other apps work just fine!

System info:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
Macintosh HD space available: 137.1 GB (13.49 GB purgeable)

Could you please guide me what I should do now? Is there any setting I have to change?

Thank you inadvance,
Kania

When you reinstalled did you use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems ? When you reinstalled did you first use the "Uninstall" option found in the Creative Cloud Desktop app in the pull-down menu that is to the right of the app's name (click on the "V") in the app section?

Are you running Illustrator over any kind of a network? If so try working locally and see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried trashing your preferences?

To do so:

For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

For Windows Users: You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.

To do so:

On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>. Make sure that Illustrator is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create  new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

I had the same problem in Illustrator CC 2018 and MacOS High Sierra.

I tried to reinstall without retaining preferences. I tried resetting preferences. Nothing worked.

Strangely enough, for me the solution was simply disabling the dictation feature of MacOS.

Got somewhat the same thing. I try to work on files that are complex but not impossible.... and often have to switch on a new canvas or restart illustrator has it is becoming extremly slow. I build my computer to withstand the most demanding task, just the gpu is not from the current gen but still.
i take a group of 30-40 form with between 3 and 14 vector points and use the shape creator tool to mix some.... and it starts by having to do a rendering of all the shape, which takes me about 30 secondes, then doing a few shape takes me up to 3 minutes to fuse them togther.

this is crazy stupid and innaceptable has this is suppose to be a tool for professionnal. and the speed really makes me want to switch to the competitor has i don,t have problem at all for the same task.

and my computer is on windows 10
ryzen 1700x overclock
32gig ram
working on ssd only
gpu r9 380x overclock
