I have a feeling I worded that poorly, but I'll better explain it.

I'm still learning Illustrator, but I seem to be getting good at making stuff like Logos & Icons. However, I am trying to create a computer chip icon for a logo I'm working on, but I don't know how to approch...whatever those little nubs are that stick out of the chip.

This give me a good time to ask about potential ways of creating patterns like this. I do have A way of doing it (via just merging a bunch of small rectangles into a square), but I want to ask if there are any tips I should take to either speed this process up, and/or help with evening out the gaps between them.

I'd build an Art Brush like this:

After re-reading your question I don't think this answers it. I'll leave it in case it helps someone else.
