Question

AI 28.6 is slow and glitchy

I am not sure what changed but the latest update (AI 28.6) has made AI slow and glitchy.  It was taking me several to a few 10s of seconds to type a few letter words because it was so laggy.  I am working on a 2023 MacBook Pro with the M2 Max CPU/GPU and 64 GB of LPDDR5 memory (i.e., the laptop has way more than enough power).  Please fix this because it is insufferable to sit and wait for the simplest of tasks operating on the fewest of vectors.  Before this update I was manipulating billions of vector graphics in fractions of a second but now it takes several seconds to highlight a single line.

Same here on Windows (brandnew PC) 28.6 is a desaster. Downgraded to 28.5 again. Works perfectly fine.

same to me

28.6 is terrible performance issues (on Windows PC, 32GB of Ram, Intel Core i5 Gen 12th)

Hello @terngz,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind confirming if the suggestions shared above helped? If not, kindly share more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, system report (https://adobe.ly/4dv4VCw), and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3yGkngb), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Same here. Illustrator 28.6 is a disaster for me. Random freezing, glitchy, even selecting objects to drag/move them is slow and glitchy. Just had to force quit it after a total lock up. Going to try downgrading the version.

On a Mac?

Do you have a window manager installed? Rectangle or Magnet? They do not play well with Illustrator.

Also: Proofpoint or Display Pilot could cause that.

Too many fonts?

No and no and no... I am not working on an old, clunky computer.  My laptop was maxed out when I bought it.  The exact same stuff I did this morning would have taken me a few minutes prior to v28.6 but now takes several 10s of minutes because I am waiting or have to undo due to glitchy motion or incorrect changes (due to lag).  It is not my computer, it is something that changed in AI (I use this software often so I am very familliar with how it usually performs on any given file).

Yes, I have a second monitor but do not have Display Pilot installed.  I would be astounded if multiple monitors caused graphics problems when it has never caused issues before.  That clearly indicates a problem in the software during one of the updates because I have been using multiple monitors for 20+ years.

Please try it without the second monitor just to figure out where to search for the issue

Did you already try the Cleaner tool route?
