Hi Everyone

Have a customer of mine that is converting AI files to PDF and then trying to print PDF but get an ERROR: stackunderflow error after first page is printed. They are using 4 Konica Minolta C450i copiers 3 have IC-420 Fiery controllers and 1 uses standard controller using PS drivers. If they print directly from AI it prints all pages. I narrow it down to PS drivers once I changed to PCL the PDF's worked but the Fierys dont play well with PCL drivers on them. Need to see if someone as a solution for me. Also attached the error page.

Thanks

When they say they are "converting", what is the workflow? Opening them in Illustrator and then saving out as PDF? or...?

In any case, the error you posted indicates an issue with your Imposition workflow. This might be something to chat with EFI about, e.g. if you are using Fiery Impose module.

Yes they just save an AI as a pdf using the Save As or Save feature. I
think its more than just a Fiery issue since they same problems occurs when
the print direct to the Konica Minolta standard controller using a PS
driver once i change the driver to PCL the documents would print out find.

Thanks for all the help

Do they have the Fiery JobExpert and PDF Processing Kit option included in their Fiery controllers?

Do the Fiery controllers have Adobe certified PDF print engines built into them? I did a quick product search about the IC420. It looks like there is an optional Fiery JobExpert and PDF Processing Kit for the IC420. It looks like that feature includes an Adobe PDF Print Engine.

Thanks for responding but the problem also exists when printing to the
standard controller of the Konica Minolta without a Fiery. It looks like a
PS driver problem because when I switch it to a PCL driver it works.

Thank You

I would expect more issues when trying to print PDF files through print drivers or RIPs that cannot handle Adobe PDF content natively. PCL print drivers may do an okay job printing PDF documents, but if the content has things like transparency effects, complex clipping masks/groups you'll be likely to see glitches like "yucky discolored box syndrome" surrounding affected objects.

When the customer is converting AI files to PDF how are they doing that? Are they saving PDF files directly out of Illustrator using the Save or Save As dialog boxes? Or are they trying to use something else? If they are using a third party application to do single file or batch file conversions that could be a source of the technical problems.

They are using Save or Save As feature
