ai file now saved as aic?

Hello, I have been working on a project in Illustrator now for a while. I am fairly new to Adobe platforms. My project, previously saved as an ai file, now only shows up as an aic file. I'm not entirely sure how aic works, but is there any way I can get this back to an ai file so I can edit it?

I do ensure they are AI format. The problem is, some of them are older AI formats and they will not open on my iPad illustrator.  So I need to know if there is a way to convert those AI files to an AIC file while only using the iPad.

Hi @Karsan30327237pv0v,

Thank you for clarifying the issue. Currently, the iPad version of Illustrator does not provide an option to directly convert an AI file to an AIC (Illustrator Cloud Document) format unless the file is first opened in Illustrator on the iPad.

If you are encountering problems with older AI formats not opening on your iPad, could you please share a sample of one of these older AI files? This will help us check with the team to see if there are any specific compatibility issues or potential workarounds.

Let me know, and I’ll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

I'm pretty sure aic is not an Illustrator format, and I'd suspect the extension was changed manually, perhaps inadvertently. Rename (a copy of) the file and leave the 'c' off the extension, then try to open it.

aic is the extension for an Adobe Illustrator Cloud document.

Is it possible to save an existing .aic file converted to .ai back to .aic to resume work on it on Illustrator for iPad?

Do a Save As and save it on your desktop (or another local place on your computer.)

What do you do if you only use the Illustrator app on the iPad and do not have access to a desktop app?

Whyt do you need to do with the file?

Send it to someone else for editing? If they have Illustrator/desktop, then they can open your AIC.
