AI not allowing saving or export - The file could not be written due to an error

I cannot save or export any projects from AI - I go to save/export and I get the error attached.

 

'The file could not be written due to an error'

 

I have tried updating to the latest version and that didn't fix anything. I also tried the preferences > file handling > unticked save in background but no help.

 

This is driving me mad and I cannot get any work done - please help!

Adobe Illustrator, Version 26.3.1

 

I am trying to save a project I created in Adobe - trying to save it as an adobe file and then export it to JPEG. Not working and getting an error message.

Where? On your local disk?

Does Illustrator have the necessary privileges?

Sorry to hear about this experience and for the late response. I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, please try saving the file to the internal hard drive and check if it works.

 

Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account for Windows / root user account for macOS and share your observations.
