AI: Select Same command in isolation mode not working

I have been struggling with the 'select same command' all afternoon. I have grouped objects; when I get to the object that I want to select as the model, I click it, then go 'Select / Same / Fill and stroke (or any other parameter) nothing happens even though I have 2 dozens of similar objects. I could not find any information on instances in which 'Select Same' doesn't work. Are there such instances, is this one of them or is my AI freaking out (and freaking me out)?

Thanks in advance.

Correct answer Monika Gause

So when you have isolated one, you can't select the others? That's how isolation is supposed to work.

But when you exit isolation mode and then selt one with the group selection tool, Illustrator should select the same ones.

Which version, which system?

Please post a screenshot that illustrates your issue. Also: the layers panel.

Sorry, I am (obviously) new to the forum.

Windows 10 Enterprise. AI CC ver 22.1.

I hope these screenshots display everything that you need.

Basically, I am trying to select the circles (any set of them), but no success. I suspect it has to do with the fact that they are parts of groups, but I have not found this to be indicated as problem/limitation in any documentation on the 'select same' function.
