the new text to vector tool is amazing, especially the match to artboard function.

I would like to trace a foto in the style of an already existing vector file.

hehe, jep,  automatically traced fotos technically have never been in a shape that you want to give to a client. (although some stock sellers ignore that)  i think everybody is used to this fact.

but, i dare to dream, especially amidst all the hyped sales talk about the power of AI.

Hence, the feature request.

If you want to make a feature request, please do so at https://illustrator.uservoice.com

The trouble with generated vector art is, that the generative AI is inherently pixel based. It will generate pixels that then need to be traced. And the tracing is the problem here. For the lat 30 years there hasn't been much process in autotrace.

Open that existing file (according to the terms of use, it must be your own)

And then you can use the eyedropper in Text to vectorgraphic.

yeah, i´ve seen your video before, my usecase/ whish is a bit different:

1. Client asked for a vector dog-head. - i made a photo of a dog - and repainted it in Illu. - design gets accepted by client -done.

2. Months later client wants full body dog. - I still have the photos so i will have to repaint one in Illu.

So here i ask for the functionality to give a tracer the photo and the existing artwork and then get a resulting  trace of the photo in my already existing style of simplification.

The textprompt for "blond hovawart" gives me people instead of dogs. (i guess the models are just not trained with all the animal races there are)

If you want the style applied to photos, then you can try and upload your photo to firefly.adobe.com

It can do artworks that look like typical vector art. Then you can use that as a template for your Illustrator art. The results of Text to Vector in Illustrator are technically not in a shape that you want to give to a client.
