Aligning curved lined with ellipses in Illustrator

Hello I am trying to align bee stripes on the body of a oval elipse. I've included the video for what I'm trying to do. Can anyone suggest how to do this to make the edges flush together?

If I understand correctly, make the stripes larger than the body, copy the body and paste in front.

Select the stripes and the copy and choose Object > Clipping Path > Make.

Paste the body in the Back (or direct select the edge of the clipping mask and give it a color).
