All of a sudden when I try to put a text box in my design it shows up with all kinds of horizontal lines making it impossible to enter text.  How do I get rid of these lines?

Can you post a screenshot that shows the issue?

Now that I see the text I can delete it.  But I have never had this much text show up.  UGH!  Is there a way to correct it or do I have to delete all of this everytime.  Thanks

do I have to delete all of this everytime

This is the automatic placeholder text? (I've never seen that much either, usually it is just two words.) If so, you can disable that default in Preferences > Type.

Try resetting your Illustrator preferences.

To do so:

For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

Thank you for your quick response.  Unfortunately, I am working on a PC and tried looking for something similar but nothing is correcting the problem.

Again, thank you so much

Did you try launching the program while holding Control, Alt and Shift keys? A prompt asking whether you want to reset should pop up. It goes away really quick so you have to answer yes rather fast.
