The alphabets has been change from "mAh" to "nBi' after outlined. There are 8 groups of 2000mAh in the artwork, the fonts type is Roboto Condensed and also provided by client. I created outline to all text and sent out for proofing. We found that all "mAh" became to "nBi' . I checked the artwork and exactly same as the proof. Then I redo it again from the orginal file from and it is normal, "mAh" to "nBi' didn't happen again. You can liternally can tell there is 1 number of the alphabets moved. M to N, A to B and h to i.

What version of Roboto did your client give you? (just do a Get Info on one of the font files) If it's version 1.x, it's kinda obsolete. Both Adobe and Google are offering v2.x, which has very different outlines and font metrics than version 1.x. Adobe Fonts is currently offering v2.00 (2015), while Google is currently offering v2.134 (2017). Also: Adobe's version has more language glyphs than the Google versions. This shouldn't cause an issue with the unicode mapping of characters, but trying to load one type or the other results in your font caches getting severely messed up, even if you've finally decided on one particular set, and this can cause all sorts of issues. Whether it caused your issue, I can't say.. this is a new one! I suggest you do a font cache purge, although since the issue resolved itself, things may have already worked themselves out.

Since your client gave you one set, old version or not, that's the version you should be using so they get what they are expecting.

Hello, I just encountered the exact same problem. The fix is easy, at least on windows : search your Roboto fonts in C:\Windows\Fonts\ and delete all Roboto files. The files from Adobe Fonts are still installed, and your text should all be using the correct caracters.

Hi @Bonnie154A,

This is a very abnormal encounter you had where the letters "mAh" in your artwork changed to "nBi' after outlining the text. This unexpected transformation can be frustrating, but let's try to understand what might have caused it.

It's possible when outlining the text, Ai might choose the substitute glyphs, resulting in the change you observed. As Ton & Jacob said, this behavior could have happened due to font conflict.

Would you mind sharing the package file, including the Ai file & font shared by the client? We will further investigate and share our observations with you.

Kindly update the discussion if you still need assistance with it. We'd be happy to help.

Thanks,

It's very likely two different builds of Roboto Condensed were involved in causing the error. One build was used in the artwork, but perhaps a different build of the font(s) were packaged with the artwork. Or as Ton suggested, a version auto-activated via Adobe Fonts was different.

While some of the fonts from the Google Fonts site are technically impressive, such as the Roboto Flex variable typeface, they do have technical problems from time to time. Google does publish updates to those fonts, although the update details are not always clear. I suspect there are some quality control issues either with how the font files are being produced or perhaps an issue with how Google's servers are delivering downloads to users. Perhaps something is getting corrupted in the transmission. I've never seen any technical problems with Google fonts that are synced via Adobe Fonts. Sometimes I've been able to go back to the Google Fonts site weeks or months later and download another copy of a type family that was acting buggy and see the new download work properly.

That is indeed strange. From what I understand it is not repeatable?

Roboto Condensed is a font available via Adobe Fonts, but you also said that it was provided by the client. Which one did you use?

Client packed the fonts too. It is .ttf
I added it in the fonts book

Can you still repeat the problem? Maybe the Adobe font was auto activated and conflicted with Font Book.
